Sao Paulo striker Alexandre Pato is still suffering from the effects of a thigh injury and has not been pencilled in for a return to the first team ahead of the Campeonato Brasileiro, which gets underway this coming weekend.

Tricolor’s club doctor told their official website: “He’s still in a bit of pain. he wanted to play, but the boss (Muricy Ramalho) does not want anyone training with pain.”

Since joining the giants in January, Pato has not managed to find full fitness, but he is on a long-term loan from Corinthians and the hope is that he will be fit sooner rather than later.

In terms of the player’s World Cup ambitions, Pato would appear to have little or no chance of making head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s final 23-man Brazil squad for the summer.

The 24 year-old has already won 27 caps in his short career, scoring an impressive ten goals in the process.
