Grêmio striker Hernán Barcos admits that he is “too embarrassed to leave the house” following defeat to rivals Inter
Grêmio were on the receiving end of a 4-1 drubbing in the final of the Rio Grande do Sul State Championship and the striker admits that the result has hit him hard.
His 13 goals won him the award as the tournament’s top goalscorer but the 30-year-old said that collecting an award after such a disappointment felt strange.
“We can’t accept a defeat like this. We wanted to win and are also suffering, but you can’t always win,” said the former Palmeiras player.
“I went to collect the award but was embarrassed. I’m too embarrassed to leave the house, but I was professional and went to represent the club. We are ashamed. Nobody wants to go out.”
“But we need to come out fighting. The only way to get the fans back on side is to show them on the pitch that we deserve it,” he completed.
Grêmio face Atlético-PR in Florianópolis this weekend in their opening game of the Brasileirão campaign.
