Former Bayern Munich and Brazil striker Giovane Elber reckons that Rafinha is in with a good chance of making Brazil’s World Cup squad after club coach Pep Guardiola changed his tactics to give the defender game time.

A focus on playing German stalwart Phillip Lahm in midfield has this season opened the door for rafinha, and Elber told Gillette Brasil Global Tour that he could reap the ultimate reward with an international call up this summer: “He did not think he would have chances (in Bayern). Then Guardiola put Lahm in midfield and trusted Rafinha on the right.”

“He was present and he took his chance, which increased because of injury to Maicon. Now we will have to see what will happen with Maicon. Rafinha showed his quality.”

The right back rafinha has two caps for his country, the first coming way back in 2008, but the 28 year-old from Londres has put himself firmly in contention to back up first choice dani Alves for this summer’s showpiece event.
