Defender Alex announces that PSG contract extension is imminentAlex has won 17 caps for Brazil but none since 2008
PSG defender Alex has announced that he is close to signing a fresh deal with the French champions after hinting previously that he may leave the Parisian club at the end of the current campaign.
Alex, 31, joined PSG in 2011 from Chelsea and has been a mainstay at the back alongside Brazil captain Thiago Silva. The club won the Ligue 1 title last season and were mightily close to dumping the aforementioned Chelsea out of this term's Champions League at the quarter final stage.
Talking to GloboEsporte, Alex said: "I am very happy at Paris and we're almost certain to renew my contract. I believe that in a week or two we will sign an agreement for another year."
The player doesn't think he will make Luiz Felipe Scolari's World Cup squad, however, stating: "Two or three players from PSG will probably be called up and although I always hope I will have the opportunity to play for Brazil, I know and understand that it will be difficult."
Another thread on Alex's contract extension is the fact that Marquinhos, the young defender who many assumed would replace his countryman at the end of the season, will now have the same man to dislodge next year if he is to consistenty represent the club he joined for €35 million last summer.
