Atlético Madrid forward Diego Costa has unsurprisingly been described as a “rebel” by manager Diego Simeone and the Argentine likes that trait in his player.

Simeone was speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero about the Champions League match against Chelsea coming up and attention turned to his Brazilian-born Spanish striker.

The Atlético manager feels Costa would be a worthy candidate for the Ballon d’Or.

He said: “Costa’s a rebel, and I like that, he is destined to be a different player.

“I just hope he doesn’t stop growing, because he still has room to improve. Right now he is among the candidates for the Ballon d’Or.”

Simeone also believes if Costa was to move to Chelsea in the summer, and it is a transfer that has been muted several times, that he would be a massive hit.

Daily Telegraph quoted the Argentine manager and he believes Costa could do his “thing” at Stamford Bridge but for the time being is relieved that the forward is Atlético’s.

“Samuel Eto’o has made them better and Diego Costa could do his thing there, but for now he is ours,” Simeone concluded.
