Retired Irish footballer Tony Cascarino has advised Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to pick Lucas Leiva as the man to replace Jordan Henderson in the Reds midfield.

Cascarino was quoted by The Sport Review and praised the Brazilian midfielder and believes he should be picked to take Henderson’s place after the England international was shown a straight red card at the weekend.

He said: “They’ve got Lucas or Joe Allen. It’s one or the other. Does he want to go with a more experienced guy in Lucas or a guy that has come to the club and been in and out of the team?

“It’s a tough call for him and he has to get it right.”

Cascarino feels Lucas is better prepared than Allen to handle the title run in, adding: “Personally, I think Lucas will be the better option because of his experience.

“Because they go away to Norwich and keeping that midfield a bit more compact. I’m not sure Allen is ready to go into that environment in the last few games.”
