Zenit Saint Petersburg striker Hulk has lauded new manager André Villas-Boas after his hat-trick at the weekend.

The Brazilian bagged a treble as Zenit thrashed FC Krasnodar 4-1 and revealed his happiness at working with the Portuguese manager again after the pair were together successfully at Porto.

Hulk told Sky Sports: “I have the experience of working with Villas-Boas in Porto and I’m happy to work with him again.

“After several weeks here I can say his arrival has lit us up.

“Now we work really hard during the whole week to come into the weekend’s match at the top of our form.

“Every day we understand better and better exactly what our manager is expecting from each of us and how we should play.”

Hulk leads the goalscoring chart in the Russian Premier League but insists he would much rather win the title than achieve that personal glory.

He added: “I feel really strong motivation to win the Russian title this season.

“Speaking honestly I would definitely prefer to win the championship than to finish the season as the league’s top scorer.”
