Atletico Mineiro ensured that they would be defending their Copa Libertadores title as group 4 winners after a narrow 1-0 win over Zamora of Venezuela last night; striker Jo provided the three points with a goal after ten minutes.

The side from Belo Horizonte, who were without the services of Ronaldinho for the final group tie, progress to the knockout stages of the tournament with 12 points from their six fixtures- three wins and three draws meaning they are undefeated in the competition for almost a year.

Atletico, who have just announced the signing of much-travelled French striker Nicolas Anelka, must now turn their attentions to Sunday’s Mineiro 1 state championship final against national champions Cruzeiro.
