Veteran forward Alecsandro was left frustrated after Flamengo’s exit from the Copa Libertadores.

Jayme de Almeida Filho’s side were beaten 3-2 by Mexican side León FC, who qualified from Group 7 at the Mengão’s expense.

Speaking after the game, Alecsandro insisted Flamengo tried their best, but were ultimately beaten by the better side.

“I had three stitches without anaesthetic in the dressing room [at half-time]," he said, as reported by sbs.com.

“I"ve got two Libertadores Cups and I"m left with a terrible pain because I know what it feels like to be South American champions.

“The fans left [the stadium] depressed, but we didn"t lack fight or determination. We equalised twice but we have to congratulate our adversaries who played very well."
