Daniel Alves believes Barcelona were let down by their finishing in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Atlético Madrid.

Gerardo Martino’s side lost 1-0 on the night to exit 2-1 on aggregate to their La Liga rivals.

Alves, who congratulated Atlético on their win, felt Barcelona could have been more clinical.

“We lacked the same ideas,” he said, as reported by Marca. “Our rival played a high intensity game, had strong lines and following the goal they were able to defend and counter with fast passes.

“We tried lots of ways to get a goal but perhaps we weren’t good enough in the final situation.

“They scored a goal with their best chance but perhaps deserved more because they hit the woodwork.

“We should congratulate the way they played. They earned it.”
