Flamengo crashed out of the Copa Libertadores in dramatic fashion after a 3-2 loss at the Maracana against Mexican side Leon, after twice coming from behind in the final Group 7 fixture.

Goals from Andre Santos and Alecsandro were negated and bettered through strikes by Arizala, Boselli and Pena to dump the 2013 Copa do Brasil champions out of South America’s leading club competition.

The result leaves Leon on 10 points, one behind group winners Bolivar; Flamengo finish on seven points safe in the knowledge that a draw last night would have seen them through at their opponent’s expense.

A propensity to leak goals has ultimately been their downfall, shipping ten in the six games played.
