The Brazilian will miss tonight’s Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund after the left-back suffered a hamstring tear.

According to Real Madrid, the 25-year-old has suffered a “first-degree tear in his left hamstring”.

Although no recovery time was specified by the Spanish giants, it is expected that the left-back will be out for a number of weeks.

The nine-time European champions host Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, with the quarter-final return leg in Germany next Tuesday.

The injury is similar to that suffered by Atlético Madrid striker Diego Costa.

News of the injury will come as a blow to Real boss Carlo Ancelotti and a worry to Brazil coach Luiz Felipe with a World Cup looming ever closer.

Marcelo has scored one goal in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Merengues this season.
