Philippe Coutinho starred for Liverpool this afternoon as they thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 to significantly boost their Premier League title hopes.

The Brazilian was one of a number of star performers at Anfield for the Reds but capped his performance with the goal of the game.

Liverpool played out from the back before Coutinho was given too much space and drilled low into the bottom corner to make it 3-0, it was his fourth league goal of the season and ensured he marked his impressive display with a goal.

He left the field shortly afterwards to a standing ovation after helping his side grab a foothold in the title race battle.

Liverpool are top of the table now and if they win their remaining six matches they will be confirmed as winners of the English Premier League for the first time.

Coutinho is sure to play a massive part in helping Brendan Rodgers team try and win the league, after the game the Liverpool manager discussed the third goal, scored by the Brazilian.

Rodgers told Liverpool’s official website: “If you watch it, instead of going forward and smashing it up the field, we circulate the ball and take it out; we use our goalkeeper, recycle the ball out of the other side.

“We look and work to get numbers and options around the ball. Young Jon Flanagan had a great bit of skill and once you come out of that pressure, the field opens up for you.

“Philippe then receives the ball, carries it and scores. It was a wonderful team goal.”
