Fábio Hamilton da Cruz died on Saturday afternoon after falling from a temporary stand at the Arena Corinthians.

The news was confirmed by the Santa Marcelina hospital and by a spokesperson for Andrés Sanchez, the Corinthians man responsible for the stadium’s construction.

It is reported that the victim fell a distance of eight metres as he was assembling the temporary structure.

The death becomes the third to occur at the stadium. Two workers were killed in November of last year when a crane collapsed at the venue.

The stadium is due to be handed over to FIFA in the middle of April and will host the opening game of this year’s World Cup when Brazil face Croatia on June 12.
