Romario has denied rumors that he will retire this year. The 39 year old goal machine has just won the Golden boot of the Brazilian championship. Finishing the season with a career record 22 goals.

“Once again I have shown that I am a thoroughbred. No one of my age has managed such a feat in a major championship,” the 39 year old told local newspapers on Monday.

Romario broke his own record, set in 2001, when he was 35 years old. That year he was crowned as the best scorer with 21 goals and he was already the oldest player to hold the title. This year he scored 22 goals, two of those last Sunday, during the Parana versus Vasco de Gama game; a 3-2 victory for Parana.
