Botafogo face Unión Española next Wednesday in a crucial Copa Libertadores match and Uruguayan Nicolás Lodeiro believes it is one that they must treat as a final.

Compared to other Brazil sides in the competition, Botafogo remain in a strong position and should they achieve victory next week then they’ll secure their passage into the knock-out phase.

Lodeiro is relishing the match and believes that having a ten day break may be key, Lancenet quoted the 25-year-old.

“We will treat it as a final. Libertadores games are always very strong and competitive,” the Uruguayan said.

“All teams want to win or pick up points away from home. These practice days will be good for us to get some things right.

“We can always improve. We started well against Independiente del Valle, made the goal and won, that was the most important thing but we have to try to keep this up.”

Lodeiro believes the crowd could play an important part and is excited about playing at the Maracanã again.

He added: “The crowd is going to play their part. They are ours and making sure the crowd is with us is so important.

“It is a pleasure to play in a packed Maracanã and we also take this opportunity to say to the fans continue to support us because it is very important for us to do well.”
