Luis Fabiano has stressed the importance of the fans to Sao Paulo’s chances of winning the Paulista state championship and highlighted how well the team has performed when playing at home in 2014.

The Brazil forward, whom many believe still has an outside chance of making Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad, has scored nine goals en route to the quarter finals of the tournament and told goal.co.br: “The fans have been very important to us, they have already demonstrated their strength at the Morumbi and we have to keep it.”

“Fans have sent us messages of encouragement and it gives us more confidence to pursue a postive outcome.”

Sao Paulo play Penapolense in the first leg of the Paulista quarter final on Wednesday at 10p.m. local time.
