Internacional midfielder Alex has spoken of his time in the Middle East and told reporters that he could not wait to return home after enduring a very difficult period with Qatari side Al Gharrafa.

After leaving Brazilian side Corinthians in 2012, and having won two Copa Libertadores with them and Inter in 2012 and 2006 respectively, Alex transferred to the Arabian peninsula with the promise of riches; he didn’t last long though and was subject to what he found odd behaviour when trying to leave.

“There was almost a terror that I might not com home one day. They took me to a hotel at midnight and didn’t give me food or water as it was Ramadan.”

Claiming that he did not get paid at times, Alex said: “Obviuosly I would warn about the negative things. The place looks perfect, beautiful, but that’s not all there is to it.”
