Andre Vilas Boas saw in the perfect start to life as head coach of Russian side Zenit as he watched his side defeat Krylya Sovetov 2-1 on Monday evening, thanks in no small part to a brace from Brazilian international Hulk.
A fifth minute penalty was added to by a strike in the 52nd minute, and although Zenit's opponents scored a consolation, the Portuguese manager's debut ended in maximum points.
Hulk and Vilas Boas worked together at FC Porto four four years, winning multiple domestic titles and the 2011 Europa League.
Zenit's latest win consolidates their position in second in the Russian league, three points behind leaders Lokomotiv Moscow and firmly in the hunt for a Champions League berth come next season.
