Philippe Coutinho returned to Liverpool’s starting line up and played his part in a thrilling 6-3 win against Cardiff in Wales as Brendan Rodgers’ men kept up pace with Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the English Premiership.

On a day whereby 17 goals were scored by the top three teams alone, the Liverpool manager decided to recall his Brazilian playmaker after dropping him for their last match against Manchester United the weekend previous.

Coutinho repayed the manager’s faith with a typically industrious display; one piece of creativity in particular setting up a goal for supreme finisher Luis Suarez and done with the calmness of a Kingston Town reggae veteran.

The dying embers of the Premiership are sure to be red hot, this result leaving Coutinho and Liverpool four points behind leaders Chelsea with a game in hand.
