Botafogo head coach Eduardo Hungaro praised the home support as key to Tuesday’s victory over Independiente in the Copa Libertadores.

Juan Carlos Ferreyra scored the only goal of the game in the 3rd minute to secure a vital three points for the home side and after the game Hungaro praised the support.

The Botafogo head coach told the press, including Lancenet, about the important role the fans played.

“Once again our fans gave a concert, they supported us and played with us,” lauded Hungaro.

“If we can maintain this community, the atmosphere, we will have a good possibility for classification. This can make a difference.

“This group has a fantastic fit with this kind of manifestation of the fans. It was predominant and fantastic to have their support. We believe even more people will come to the stadium in the next match.”

Just over 26,000 attended the Libertadores tie at the Maracanã and although they didn’t see the most entertaining of matches they did see an important win for the Brazilian side.

Hungaro tried to play down the importance of Botafogo’s next Libertadores match, also at home, against Unión Española by concluding: “Let’s enjoy this victory and give it some time.”
