English newspaper The Independent believe Paulinho is out of Tottenham Hotspur’s second leg Europa League tie against Benfica on Thursday night.

Spurs trail the Portuguese side 3-1 from the first leg last week and need all of their senior players fit to somehow try and overturn the two-goal deficit.

However it now seems they will be without their Brazilian summer signing according to a recent report in the Independent.

The paper insists that the former Corinthians midfielder has been injured in training and is now focusing on getting himself fit for Sunday’s Premier League match against Southampton.

If confirmed it is another setback for Paulinho in a tough opening season in London. He moved to Spurs hoping to be part of a title challenging team but it has gone disastrously wrong.

He is currently playing under his second manager of the season but would have hoped to be fit for Thursday’s match considering he has impressed in the Europa League this season.

If Paulinho is injured though he and his manager Tim Sherwood will hope it isn’t serious and he can regain his position in the centre of midfield soon.
