England legend Bobby Moore and Wayne Rooney praised by Brazil’s sports minister
Brazil’s sports minister Aldo Rebelo has been singing the praises of current England hero Wayne Rooney and legendary World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore.
Rebelo was in conversation with various English media recently and was quoted by the Daily Telegraph this evening.
He was complimentary about various England stars but went into depth about two past and present internationals.
Rebelo said: “I used to live in the countryside, far away in the back-lands, but I had a special reverence for figures like Gordon Banks, Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore.
"They enjoyed huge respect in Brazil because they conquered the world for their country. They projected the name and reputation of England around the world, much more than many other heroes.
“They enjoyed great respect in Brazil despite the fact that they were English. It is like with the French, Italian, German and Argentinian players who won the World Cup.
"They are known throughout the world, they are respected throughout the world and even more in their own countries. I know there is a Bobby Moore statue outside Wembley and that is very well deserved.”
Brazil’s sports minister wasn’t finished there though and revealed that Rooney will be one of the main attractions at the summer spectacle.
Rebelo added: “One of the great attractions of the World Cup in Brazil will be Wayne Rooney.”
“Of course, I know about Wayne Rooney! He is a great, brave player. He has many qualities, dribbling, passing, shooting. He’s very daring.”
England fans will hope Rooney lives up to this praise in the summer as he is certainly due an excellent international tournament.
