Flamengo recored a second straight home 2-2 draw in the Carioca state championship as their promising start to the season started to splutter somewhat. However, the Rio de Janeiro club’s ability to come back from being two goals down in this fixture will give them cause for optimism that they can still secure a 33rd regional triumph when the league is complete.

Visitors Bangu raced into a two goal lead thanks to strikes from Willen and Chris Vieira either side of half time. Flamengo hauled themselves back into the game with a goal from 21 year-old striker Nixon, and it was the youngster that earned them a draw after repeating the feat just six minutes later.

Flamengo remain top of the Carioca after fourteen games, leading Fluminense by sven points on 35. Bangu sit a respectable ninth, on 17 points after 14 games.
