Antonio Cassano has declared his burning desire to appear at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and believes his recent performances have put him in the frame to make Cesare Prandelli’s Italy squad.

Cassano, 31, has led a nomadic career that has seen him represent Roma, AC and Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He has never quite reached the heights many thought were expected of him, but is now impressing at current side Parma, bagging a brace in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Clarence Seedorf’s AC Milan at the San Siro.

“I swear I’d ;ove to go, as I’ve never been to a World Cup,” Cassano told Sky Sport Italia, “I’m doing everything possible to make the coach’s decision difficult.”

“I don’t know what my chances are, but I really hope and am keeping my fingers crossed.”

Cassano has made 35 appearances for the Azzuri, scoring ten times in the process.
