Following an injury to midfielder Kevin Strootman, the Italian side are reported to be interested in swooping for the Brazilian pair Paulinho and Sandro, according to the British paper the Daily Express.

The Netherlands international was linked to United last summer but is out for the rest of the season including the World Cup after injuring his knee ligaments against Napoli last week.

Although Spurs man Sandro has also suffered an injury-hit season, notching up 20 appearances this term, it is thought that Roma may be willing to take the gamble.

Paulinho’s qualities are also appealing to the side from the Italian capital. The 25-year-old is a regular for his country and has scored five goals in 25 appearances.

Reports emanating on the continent indicate Roma are optimistic about landing the pair especially as Franco Baldini is Spurs’ sporting director.

Tottenham host Benfica in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League tie on Thursday night.
