Atlético Paranaense travel to Peru this week to face Universitario in the Copa Libertadores but will be without the services of forward Adriano.

The former starlet of Brazilian football joined Atlético at the start of 2014 for their Libertadores campaign and has featured in their previous two matches.

UOL Esporte reported that the 32-year-old is suffering from back pain and the medical department ruled that he shouldn’t travel with the squad to Peru.

They don’t specify the length of the former Internazionale forward’s injury but in reality it isn’t likely that Atlético will miss him too much.

Although Adriano has come on in their previous two Libertadores matches it has been for under ten minutes each time and he has failed to contribute much to either game.

With his fitness understandably not up to the mark yet, hopefully this injury setback isn’t the start of many problems for the talented forward. Attempts to revive his career have often faltered once he has sustained a small fitness problem.

Nostalgic football fans and Atlético Paranaense supporters will hope Adriano is back to fitness soon and able to contribute to the team.
