Cruzeiro head coach Marcelo Oliveira has backed his side to maintain a very impressive recent run of results by beating uruguayan team Defensor Sporting in tonight’s latest round of Copa Libertadores fixtures.

The Brazilian domestic champions have won their last five games at a canter and were 5-1 victors in their last Copa appearance, against Universidad Chile on February 25. The Belo Horizonte outfit currently sit top of Group 5 on goal difference having lost in the opening week but would appear to be favourites for tonight’s showdown.

Oliveira told reporters: “It’s a fast opponent playing a strong brand and being very competitive. What we can expect is a difficult game with a fierce spirit of competition.”

“We will face certain difficulties but we are prepared, because it was crucial that we win in Uruguay.”

Cruzeiro have history in the famous tournament, winning it twice in 1976 and in 1997, and finishing runners-up as short a time ago as 2009.
