England captain Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on one of South America’s biggest talents ahead of their mouthwatering Group D clash at this summer’s World Cup.

Oh what Brazil would give for a frontman like Luis Suarez, the type of player that would solve their problem ‘one-up-top’ equation. Gerrrard believes that the Uruguayan is so good, he is amongst the world’s very very best players.

“I’d rather play on the same team as him, of course I would,” Liverpool skipper Gerrard told liverpooloffside.com, “we both know that when that whistle goes against Uruguay, the friendship goes out the window for 90 minutes and we both fight for our countries.”

“But I can’t speak highly enough of him as a player, he’s up there, for me, in the top five players in the world.”

England meet Uruguay in Sao Paulo on June 19 in what could be a decisive fixture. Also competing in the section are European giants Italy and relative minnows Costa Rica.
