Palmeiras notched their third straight win in the Paulista A1 state championship after a 3-1 away victory against Paulista at the Estadio Benedito Teixeira on Sunday evening. The visitors, who were without influential centre back and World Cup winner Lucio, made light work of their less-esteemed opponents as both teams had a man sent off in the second half.

Left-back Willam Mateus gave Palmeiras the lead before David Batista’s penalty retored parity. Victor Hugo and Marcelo Oliveira were sent off for home and away sides respectively but Palmeiras’ quality shone and they wrapped up the three points thanks to goals from Miguel and Patrick Vieira.

The result puts Palmeiras on 32 points after 13 games, having lost only once, whereas opponents Paulista remain winless and with only two points after the same amount of games.
