Chelsea play Tottenham today at Stamford Bridge but Blues midfielder Willian might have ended up being on the away side if events had gone differently during the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian was on the verge of moving to White Hart Lane in August before Roman Abramovich hijacked the move and the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder moved to west London instead of north.

The 25-year-old endured a slow start to life at the Bridge following his move from Anzhi Makhackala but has been an outstanding and key member of José Mourinho squad since settling.

Tottenham and Chelsea faced each other earlier in the season but Willian didn’t feature. However, he has been confirmed as a substitute at Stamford Bridge this evening and it will be the first time he has come up against the side that nearly signed him if he is subbed on.

Although he hasn’t registered lots of goals and assists it would not be a surprise if Willian scored against the team that nearly bought him today.

In 18 Premier League appearances he has two goals and one assists but don’t be shocked if he adds to that tally this evening at Stamford Bridge.
