Brazilian Neto hoping to stay as Fiorentina keeper for a long time
When previewing Fiorentina’s match against Juventus this weekend, Brazilian keeper Neto spoke about his time in Florence and how happy he is with Viola.
Neto has been with the club since 2011 and spoke about the previous meeting between Juve and Viola earlier this season.
Fiorentina won 4-2 and it was a game in which the Brazilian received high praise, Neto said: “My mentality is that this game was truly important and remains in the history of the club.
“However, this will be a different match with a different atmosphere. We must gain from that performance the confidence that we are strong.”
When the 24-year-old joined Fiorentina he didn’t play for some time and was criticised initially but has bounced back to become a vital Viola player.
He hopes to stay in Florence for a long time but admits it is down to the club and his agent to sort out an extension on his current deal.
Neto said: “If we look at the statistics, we have the third best defence in the League. What irritated me was that at the start I didn’t play, but the media did not influence that, because criticism is part of football.
“I am taking it one day at a time and hope to be the goalkeeper of Fiorentina in future too. You’d have to ask the club or my agent about a contract extension, but if the proposal satisfies everyone then I am happy.”
