The statistics of Neymar’s international career continue to get better and better and looking at the Barcelona strikers figures following yesterday’s hat-trick against South Africa make astonishing viewing.

The 22-year-old has a phenomenal record for someone so young and currently is on course to become one of the greatest attackers ever produced in Brazil.

Neymar’s three goals in his country’s 5-0 win over South Africa took him up to 30 goals in just 47 appearances for Brazil. It also moved him above Kaká in the record books of leading Seleção scorers.

The former Santos forward is now approaching some illustrious names on the list and at such a young age it seems inevitable that he will end up alongside the likes of Ronaldo (62 goals) and Pelé (77 goals).

Various Brazilian newspapers have been raving about the youngsters goal scoring exploits and he is the second quickest to the 30-goal mark since the great Pelé.

Luiz Felipe Scolari spoke with UOL Esporte after the match and praised the Seleção number ten.

Scolari said: “The cloud has gone. What is important is that Neymar feels happy.

“He has increased since joining Barcelona and here is a little bit different now but it feels right there and here.”

Pelé and Ronaldo are in the sights of Neymar, especially considering his age but what would set him apart from those two players would be to win Brazil a home World Cup.

If Neymar stays healthy and doesn’t become complacent there is no reason why he won’t become one of Seleção’s highest ever scorers. The challenge before that though is to win Brazil the 2014 World Cup.
