Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari happy with Fernandinho and Rafinha’s performance
Seleção head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari declared himself a happy man after watching Brazil thrash South Africa 5-0 in Johannesburg on Wednesday, especially after the performances of Fernandinho and Rafinha.
The Brazil boss handed the Manchester City midfielder and the Bayern Munich defender opportunities for the first time in quite a while and was pleased with their displays.
Scolari spoke with lancenet and praised the Man City man, he said: “Fernandinho scored a great goal, but it was not only this that I liked but also his participation with good passes.
“I’d rather have these ‘problems’ than other difficulties. Did you see Fernandinho with Luiz Gustavo in the second half? He knows his positioning, he played well in all positions.
“He has added to the options for the World Cup, he has a good possibility.”
Although Rafinha put in a more modest display he still received praise from the national team coach.
Scolari added: “I liked what I saw of Rafinha. He made it simple and was very balanced.”
The Seleção boss reiterated his point about places still being up for grabs in his squad, although not many.
“One can never close it 100%. We know how football is, there may be an injury so it never closes,” admitted Scolari.
“A phenomenon could appear so let’s not close the door on anyone. We continue with the idea of 95%.”
