Chelsea defender David Luiz witnessed countryman Neymar fire a hat-trick against South Africa on the same day speculation mounted that he could join him at Barcelona in the summer.

Luiz helped Brazil keep a clean sheet against South Africa during Seleção’s 5-0 win over the hosts of the previous World Cup earlier this evening.

And the Chelsea defender, who has continuingly been linked with a move to Barcelona, is now in the sights of Barcelona once more according to British newspaper the Daily Telegraph.

They believe the Catalan club will bid €30 million (£24.7 million) for the Luiz and hope to conclude a deal before the World Cup finals kicks off in June.

The Brazilian is hugely popular at Chelsea and although he isn’t pushing for a move “he would be keen to join Barcelona” according to the Telegraph.

Yesterday Barcelona captain Carles Puyol confirmed he plans to leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season, therefore Luiz could be signed as his replacement.

It is quite possible that with Luiz being linked to the La Liga club in the past and Puyol announcing his departure that this could be mere speculation and rumour.

However if it isn’t and Barcelona do want to sign the Chelsea defender then Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari will hope that any negotiations can be concluded quickly.

The last thing the Seleção head coach would want is speculation distracting Luiz before the biggest tournament of his life.
