Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari refused to be drawn on the out-of-favour veteran midfielder when asked on Tuesday.

“Every Brazilian has the same opportunity as everyone else to make the squad,” he told reporters ahead of a Wednesday’s friendly against South Africa.

Former Chelsea manager Scolari confirmed that he would watch matches in Brazil and Europe before his May 7 squad announcement and thus it seems that there is still a glimmer of hope for 31-year-old Kaká and other fringe contenders.

“I will watch and talk to players at home and abroad and then choose my 23 for the World Cup. Our ambition is to win the tournament and the preparations are on track.”

A large crowd is expected at the 90,000-seat national stadium with Barcelona striker Neymar the main attraction.
