Spain legend and multiple international trophy winner Xavi Hernandez has announced that this summer’s World Cup tournament in Brazil will be his last and also hinted that an appearance at Euro 2016 is highly unlikey.

The Barcelona midfielder, a crucial component of a golden generation for both club and country, has won all there is in world football, including the previous World Cup in South Africa.

“I want to have a good friendly against Italy and a good World Cup, and I would have to think it’s been my last European championships.”

On the mindset of Diego Costa, his Brazilian-born Spain teammate, Xavi said: “He is very happy, he has been integrated very quickly into the group.” He is a lot of fun and very sociable.”

“He adds to the group and gives the manager another option.”
