Bayern Munich’s Thiago has criticised former employers Barcelona after spending half a season with his new club. The son of former Brazil player Mazinho, who could have played for the Selecao but opted for world champions Spain, was speaking ahead of this week’s international friendly fixtures.

“My decision to come to Bayern was wonderful. It’s great to play in the Bundesliga and the club is the best in the world.”

“I guess they (Barcelona) did not believe in me.”

“Barca will never be Bayern and Bayern will never be Barca. Pep Guardiola has passed on his ideas and skills to the players.”

Thiago then went on to praise stalwart Xavi, whose place in the Spain team many believe he is destined to take in the long run: “Xavi is a benchmark for me. When I see him, my jaw drops. I hope I can give to football something like Xavi has.”
