Fluminense striker Fred has been discussing his strenuous training routine from the past week in an attempt to impress Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Fred will link up with his international team mates tomorrow ahead of Wednesday’s friendly fixture against South Africa.

The 30-year-old played on Thursday night against Cabofriense and scored. He has been speaking with lancenet.com about his preparation for Brazil’s match.

Fred said: “On Thursday, after a game like that at night I could not do much work.

“I worked with the team on Sunday, our day off. I talked with the coaching staff (Fluminense), rejoiced in the fifth and sixth.

“I trained strongly yesterday and today. I have done good work to come on Wednesday even better.”

Fred will hope his extra work can pay off if he is selected to start on Wednesday by Scolari. His fitness has been an issue since the Confederation Cup win last year.

With options around limited it is vital that Fred can show his worth to Scolari and in the mean time silence his doubters.
