Atlético Madrid midfielder Diego believes the home fans can be decisive in Sunday’s city derby against Real Madrid.

The Vicente Calderón Stadium plays host to first against third and the Brazilian midfielder knows the atmopshere will be amazing.

Diego told AS.com: “Like every match in La Liga, it’ll be a very difficult match – particularly so against a top team like Madrid.

“But we’re ready to put in a good match. We’ll have our fans kicking every ball with us, and I’m sure we’re stronger at the Calderón.

“It’s difficult to put it into words. It’s very special (the atmosphere at the Calderón).

“I’m proud and happy to be part of a spectacular team like Atlético, particularly in a derby.

“It’s a special atmosphere and I try to enjoy every minute of it, because it’s spectacular, not just for the supporters. For us as players, having an atmosphere like that is amazing.”

The Brazilian, who rejoined the club in the winter transfer window, discussed the key elements to success against Real Madrid.

Focus is key but Diego feels Atlético can defeat Los Blancos, he added: “The details, keeping your focus, the little things.

“In a game like this you don’t get many chances, so keeping your focus for the whole 90 minutes makes the difference. The team that does this better will win the match.”
