The Brazilian midfielder will not be ready in time to face Southampton on Saturday but has returned to first-team training.
Manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Thursday that the 27-year-old has rejoined the squad as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee problem.
The Brazil international is ahead of schedule in his recovery.
“Lucas Leiva rejoined the group today, which was great,” said the Liverpool manager.
