Paris Saint-Germain defender Maxwell has extended his contract with the Ligue 1 side until June 2015.

The 32-year-old’s current contract was due to run out this summer but the Paris club have decided to trigger a one-year extension.

The deal was announced on the PSG club website and Maxwell revealed his delight at the news.

The Brazilian said: “I am very proud of the president Nasser Al Khelaifi’s confidence in me.

“I will continue to give my all for the club and our supporters to pay back this confidence. Dream bigger!”

The former Barcelona left back has been a crucial player for PSG since joining from the Catalan club in January 2012.

President Al Khelaifi praised the defender in a club statement, he said: “Maxwell is an exceptional player who contributed greatly to the club since his arrival.

“I wished for him to be part of the project at Paris Saint-German over the long term.”

Maxwell will hope to celebrate his new contract renewal at the weekend with another solid display in Le Classique against Marseille.
