Felipe Melo admits he would love to stay at Galatasaray and is incredibly proud of the history he has created with the Istanbul club.

A huge fan favourite, the Brazilian also discussed his relationship with them and said why he feels they idolise him.

Melo, who was speaking with Globo Esporte, said: “Galatasaray is the club where I have made history, and it is very cool.

“If I have to stay here to continue this story, no problem, but we do not know the future.

“I do not know if they make a purchase, if Galatasaray sells, has renewal. The thought is to continue making history here.”

The Brazilian joined the Turkish club in 2011 before joining permanently the following year.

He was subject to interest from Bayern Munich but is adamant he made the right decision joining Galatasaray.

Melo added: “We cooled the situation with Bayern. Galatasaray did not win the Champions League, but I have won everything I could in Turkey, I am national idol. I am very honored here.”

And why is he adored by Gala fans? “First, the titles won. Second, is the professionalism that I have always practiced and playing at a high level, and the pitbull they know me.

“I remember when we lost 6-1 at home to Real I left applauded, because I always run and want to win.

“When I go out on the streets I see the love that everyone has for me, not only fans of Galatasaray. Today I consider myself the national idol.

“There is respect for the professional. I think that was missing in Brazil. Against Chelsea, I played with two broken ribs, if you have to play with 40 degrees of fever, I’ll play.”
