Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl may have inadvertingly caused controversy but revealing that Zenit St Petersburg forward Hulk would like to join the German side.

Kehl’s comments were firmly tongue in cheek as he suggested Dortmund couldn’t afford him even if they wanted to but after a disappointing defeat for Zenit these quotes will displeasure the home officials and supporters.

Abola quoted Kehl after Tuesday’s Champions League encounter, he said: “Hulk asked me if he could play in Dortmund from the summer.

“But I don’t know if we could afford him!” joked the 34-year-old.

Zenit’s 4-2 lost to Dortmund has all but ended their hopes of progressing in the Champions League despite the second leg still to come.

Hulk played a part in both of the goals scored by the Russians, being involved in Oleg Shatov’s opener and then smashing home a penalty himself.

The Brazilian’s performance wasn’t great throughout however and on too many occasions he tried to create or score the spectacular when an easier option was available.

The 27-year-old wouldn’t have impressed Jürgen Klopp’s team too much but they will be on the look out for a forward in the summer as they’ll say goodbye to Robert Lewandowski.

However, Hulk would most likely be deemed too expensive for Dortmund as Kehl rightly points out.
