Vasco Da Gama lost pace at the top of the Campeonato Carioca after a humbling 2-1 home loss to Cabofriense on Sunday evening, a result which leaves them four points behind their opponents and seven behind league leaders Flamengo.

With the visitors having impressed in the state championship so far, this game was anything but a foregone home win, but few would have expected such a final result at the Regatas.

An early Vasco goal courtesy of 31 year-old striker Edmilson was cancelled out and then bettered before half-time, thanks to strikes from Francisco Para and Fabricio Carvalho.

The result leaves Vasco in dire need of winning their next Carioca fixture, away to Madureira on Thursday evening.
