Saturday’s game will also serve as an opportunity for coach Jayme de Almeida to assess his squad ahead of the Copa Libertadores.

Flamengo are currently neck and neck with Fluminense in the Campeonato Carioca and face Resende in Volta Redonda this Saturday hoping that a they can get the win they need to go top. Last time out the rubronegro beat Madureira 2-0.

Jayme de Almeida, Flamengo’s coach, thinks that the game will provide an important test for the team which will go on to face Emelec, of Ecuador, in the Copa Libertadores on Wedesday.

“Each time we play our team needs to evolve to reach the kind of level we agreed on at the start of the season. We’re aware that we face a challenge against Resende but it’s important that we show what we’re capable of.”
