Leandro Damiao has dismissed any speculation surrounding the relationship he has with the other contenders for the Brazil Number 9 role ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has hinted that there may be one or two attacking positions up for grabs for the host nation at the tournament and Damiao is thought to be one of the main contenders for a call-up, providing he can rediscover his best form for new side Santos.

Speaking with esporte.com, Damiao said: “My focus is Santos, to help Santos, and if other opportunites happen, I’ll be happy”

Regarding others vying for a place in Scolari’s set-up, Leandro continued: “Fred scored his first goal of the season yesterday (after a lengthy injury) and Alan Kardec is a friend of mine, I support him regardless of the Brazilian team.”
