After failing yet again to register a win, the Glorioso are now further behind in the race to make the finals of the state championship.

Thursday night saw Botafogo draw 1-1 with Volta Redonda in the Rio de Janeiro state championship. It was a poor showing, and exactly the opposite to what fans have become accustomed to seeing in the Copa Libertadores.

Coach Eduardo Hungaro, however, rejected any suggestion that there is a lack of motivation to participate in the Campeonato Carioca.

“I guarantee that we don’t lack desire. They’re motivated for all of the games, but these periods of poor form are not uncommon at this time of year. I’m not denying that we’ve performed worse in the state championship than we have in the Libertadores,” said Hungaro.

Duda also reaffirmed the dedication of the players.

“This group is special. The players are conscious and give their maximum every time they pull on the shirt. But sometimes things don’t go the way we want.”
