Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has poured scorn on suggestions that the World Cup hosts may bow to expectation when hosting this summer’s showpiece event and instead insisted that the pressure to succeed in the tournament can propel them on to an unprecedented sixth global triumph.

Speaking at a World Cup workshop for coaches in Florianapolis, Scolari said: “It helps us win. Fans, they help us win.Fans are important.”

“We are playing at home, something like that makes a difference. We have a squad that is competitive and of high quality.”

“And having this togerhter with the fans, we can always be the best. Because of this, I’m completely confident that we can get to the final and become champions.”

The man they call Felipao has already tasted World Cup success after he masterminded a Brazilian triumph in 2002, their fifth and last success in the tournament.
