Chelsea defender David Luiz has spoken of the pressure that Brazilians are under to triumph at this summer’s World Cup and his take on how to deal with it. Unsurprisingly, the centre-back appears very relaxed about the whole situation.

In a country that has been waiting to host another World Cup for over half a century- and with the opportunity to lay ghosts of that final to rest- Luiz spoke with the Daily Mail about how he will approach it all.

“We need to win. There’s a big pressure on us,” said the 26 year-old, “For Brazilian people we have been waiting for this World Cup for over 60 years.”

“I am so excited at the chance to give my people the title. I know what it felt like as a young boy to see Brazil win the World Cup. My favourite memory is Roberto Baggio missing the penalty for Italy in 1994- I was running around the sofa celebrating.”

Luiz appears to be thriving on the pressure to succeed this year and few would bet against him making another dash around the furniture come July 13th.
